Why we’re going all-in on Open Source with our PaaS
Today we’re announcing a shift in our commitment to Open Source: Nadrama is going all-in on Open Source!
What does this mean? Soon, you’ll be able to deploy your apps and containers in production in minutes, using an entirely Open Source Platform-as-a-Service built on Kubernetes.
Today:
-
You can already deploy our Open Source platform to a bare Kubernetes cluster such as EKS; and
-
Netsy, our etcd alternative which stores data in S3 is already Open Source.
-
However, the infrastructure our managed Cloud offering deployed in your cloud provider account was still not entirely Open Source.
What’s next:
-
We’re working on the necessary changes to make the infrastructure deployed by our managed Cloud offering 100% Open Source.
-
We’re also going to provide a Terraform/OpenTofu template to make it just as easy to deploy a Nadrama PaaS yourself, without being required to use our managed/Cloud offering.
Why the change?
Since launching the Nadrama beta in July, we’ve been busy engaging with the community, onboarding and testing with early users, iterating, and gathering feedback.
What we’ve heard from devs, businesses, and enterprises is:
-
You want ownership and control of your infrastructure.
-
Devs love using Kubernetes, but there’s complexity operating it and all of the components around it. You want engineering capacity focused on building your apps, not your infrastructure.
-
Current infrastructure challenges include:
- Managing upgrades, especially across multiple clusters.
- Better auto-scaling to optimise resource allocation and utilisation.
- Keeping costs low/optimised and in budget, especially for observability/logs.
- Ensuring your platform enables product/delivery teams, and does not become a blocker.
